Forgiveness fosters growth, learning and healing

No matter what is going on in my life right now, i know it is only a preparations for better things . I will not allow yesterday's garbage influence my experience today. one thing i learned to date, is to not punish myself for being human. We make mistakes and we never forgive ourselves for the mistakes we've  made, instead, we punish ourselves and begin to create negative thoughts that will only invite negative and distasteful things in our lives . forgiveness is  about growth, learning and healing and i have done exactly that. I have forgiven myself for believing that i am not worth making it big. I used to limit myself, fear being one of the things that made me limit myself. Today i know what i want and i believe that i am going to be exactly what i believe i am going to be. I have started  a race and i am enjoying the ride.

11 April 2015  was my graduation at University of Johannesburg. Ooh! It felt soo good to finally achieve what i wanted...

EMAIL THAT WILL CHANGE MY LIFE FOR THE BETTER

I usually go through my emails, Facebook and twitter notifications in the morning and on the 17 November, I woke up to a email I believe its going to completely change my life for the better. The email is from my media lecturer send on my student email address specifically created for academic reasons. It had a link to liveMag digital Magazine.  livemag.co.za is a digital media channel   covering  topics from fashion, politics, music, art, relationships, career advice, events and gigs. Just by opening this link I got extremely excited and I knew for fact that Digify is exactly what I need to improve my skills and knowledge in digital and social media.

I’m ready to share my extraordinary and creative skills learned from the University with the world and the youth of South Africa.  I noticed that some of the things they doing at Digify we have done at the university. I am excited and hope I get the opportunity.

DREAMS THAT MAKE YOU TAKE ACTION.

That’s it! I’ve had enough, I am fed up, miserable and I have stamped my foot several times. I am going to start writing and I will eventually become the best writer in the entire world. My friends always have things to do and I’m either watching TV or thinking about where the next party is. What I am going to do with this boring life with no ambition?

My dreams are sometimes fun, disgusting, outrageous and boring. This time though, the dream was different. It was empowering, motivating and made me believe in my abilities. This dream gave me a glimpse into how beautiful and inspiring my future will be. Should I continue writing and reading a lot. I will have the most breath taking resume a Public Relations Practioner will dream of.

Editors complain that most Public Relations Practioners are unable to write. Well, I dreamt about interning at fashion publication. Everybody who worked at this Publication knew how to write properly and they were very articulate not to mention how immaculate the building and the employees were. It was a daunting experience.  The magazine editor was complaining about my writing skills. He told me that if I do not work on my writing skills. I will have to look for a job in another department but definitely not communication. I then started to read novels, biographies, practice writing. He fell in love with the idea that I was making strides. I showed him that PR was my passion and it is a dream I needed to make a reality.

When I woke up this morning I asked myself this question. What would a fashion publication be without a fresh intern who is willing to get his hands dirty and also willing to build a long term career in fashion publications? I have started and I am not going to stop now.

Remember that every problem requires its own solution. I have found my problems in my dreams and my solution to read and write. I wrote about this because I need to warn my fraternity about dreaming and not taking action or realising that dreams are there to be turned into realities.

If you have any critics about this post do not hesitate to give a constructive criticism. We all learn from our mistakes!

JOURNALISM VS SOCIAL MEDIA

I'M not one to comment on what’s happening in the media industry. This time, however, I’m going to make an exception for it is not often you become a media student and you don’t have sentiments about what is happening within the industry.  I decided to start this blog with a very interesting topic that makes me worry and at the same time excites  me about the beauty of technology (social media).

I didn’t know much about social media, up until I decided to study Public Relations and Communication and met up with my amazing media lecturer. I then realised one thing, that every morning we  are waken up by a hot cup of coffee and  news distributed on social media. And the ideal news breaker is twitter. It is the ultimate journalist challenge that people document news on social network before published.

Journalists used to use pen and papers, cameras to film events on news. Today things have changed. I personally listen, watch and read news on my cell phone.I no longer wait for 7oclock news to be documented.

Twitter, Facebook and Instagram had really become fantastic platforms to use as source of news. I’ve gained, spot and shared news on these phenomenal platform.

I think the beauty of social media is that people can now engage on topics. I’ve seen newsfeed of Oscar’s trial, citizen journalist reporting on the recent tremor experienced.

I believe that social media is a significant tool for the freedom of the press and It really enlarges the number of people who can contribute information. Let’s not get carried away and get to the topic. Do you think we still need journalist in the age of social media? This is open for discussion.
